Legalised Digital Download Sites (MP3/WAV)  

We all know about the proliferation of filesharing and P2P progams over the last few years and the legal minefield that resulted from their rapid growth. Napster ran into problems and was forced to reinvent and relaunch itself to produce leaglised downloads where loyalties would be paid to the artist. Clearly, this is a much better solution for both artist and consumer as royalties are paid and the the quality of the track downloaded can be much more carefully regulated.

Within the dance music industry, there are a large number of these legalised download sites that are extremely useful to any budding bedroom dj and to those involved in taking their art to the masses and playing live. Below is a list of the main digital download sites. There really is a wealth of music available from these sites and all offer you the chance to preview a track before committing to purchase.

3Beat Digital
A UK based site which sells digital downloads as well vinyl (that'll please traditional djs). A good selection of material in a variety of genres with a number of exclusives.

Additech
Not used this one much but sells vinyl and cds as well as downloads.Seems to have a few tasty tracks

Beatport
This is one of the leading download sites. Based in America, tracks are updated on a daily basis
and contain all genres of dance music.Slick interface and a plethora of tracks are available to choose from.
Great browsing and search functions. One of my favourite and most visited sites.

Audiojelly
Another great site. This time, prices are in UK sterling which tends to push the price up a little
but I've often found tracks here that haven't been available elsewhere.
Nice interface and search function plus a good selection of genres.

DJ Download
Lots of great tracks on this UK based site. A variety of genres and nice easy to use interface

Juno
A vast array of tracks. Nice genre categorisation too.

Magnetic Grooves
Sells both mp3s and wavs of various dance genres.

Play It Tonight
All MP3s encoded at 320kbs which is good to see.

Release Records
Tracks from its own label plus a host of others. Another personal favourite.

Resonant Vibes
I like this site. It almost seems to have taken over from the now defunct EDM site.
Some great tracks for sell from people you might not have heard of as well as those you have!

Track It Down
Nice selection of tracks and genres

Working Beats
Another UK based site. Plenty of genres and tracks aren't too expensive.

Xpress Beats
UK site with a slick interface.
