Further Music Resources
Below is a list of other miscellaneous resources. A couple of good UK based shops which stock most of the software mentioned here and will almost certainly help if you have any questions; a couple of sites with information on the art of harmonic mixing - the state of nirvana for all djs; and a a few good magazines that will keep you apprised of the changes in the music/dj industry.
Dolphin Music
A great shop that stocks all the things you're likely to need for
music creation - from computers and software
keyboards, soundcards and fx units. I've bought from them several times.
DJ Store
Another great online shop specialising in DJ equipment, although
it does have a limited range of soundcards
and other computer equipment. Very quick delivery.
Phil Rees
Specialist bespoke computers designed specially for music
applications. You can be sure these computers
will do exactly as they are supposed to and are tweaked for additional
performance. Not cheap, but you
pay for quality.
NUSystems
Another specialist music shop selling computers designed for
audio use. Also sells other music related
equipment.
Harmonic Mixing
A nifty little site that explains the art of harmonic mixing.
Mixed In Key
This site sells a little standalone program that will work out
what key all your mp3s are in.
Great for use with programs like Ableton.
Future Music
A great monthly magazine which reviews all the latest software
and hardware releases
in the music industry. Also comes with a free DVD each month with samples,
tutorials
and videos.
Computer Music
From the same publishing stable as Future Music, Computer Music
is probably more suited
to those just starting out and with a hobby in making electronic music. Free DVD
each month.
Sound On Sound
Comprehensive magazine covering all sound recording issues and
has been around for years.
Probably not the best place for the beginner to start!
DJ Mag
Covers new releases, the clubbing scene and new advances in dj
technology.
Mixmag
Free cd each month with mixes from top djs. Covers all the main
issues in the clubbing world,
and new releases from all the main genres of dance music.
